Resonance Ensemble and the Oregon Symphony present: An African American Requiem (World Premiere)

NOTE THE DATE CHANGE: Resonance and the Oregon Symphony have rescheduled An African American Requiem for Saturday, May 7, 2022.

Additional tickets will go on sale in the Spring of 2021. Those of you who already hold tickets for the original performance may continue to hold on to them for the rescheduled performance. As before, Resonance will have discounted tickets available for our mailing list; please make sure you have signed up to receive these updates.

Oregon Symphony and Resonance Ensemble join forces to present the World premiere of An African American Requiem, Portland composer Damien Geter’s bold, thought-provoking musical response to violence against African Americans in the United States. Combining traditional Latin Requiem texts with civil rights declarations, poetry, and the famous last words of Eric Garner, “I can’t breathe,” this performance will honor past and present victims of racial violence and spur reflection on how to build a more hopeful future.

Great news! This concert has been picked up for a national radio broadcast. In order to share this important premiere with listeners across the country, the concert will now begin at 6 pm instead of the previously announced 7:30 pm.
